Song: “Everything We Forget to Say”
This song is a duet between college freshman Jamie and his girlfriend, Em.
Because the characters are shy and lack the confidence to speak their feelings, this is really a love song in which the characters never say the words “I love you.”
After seeing each other, Jamie and Em separately reflect on “Everything We Forget to Say.”
Vocals: Jacob Sutherland sings Jamie and Adrienne Eller sings Em.
Jacob most recently starred in Cast Aside Productions’ New England premiere of Bubble Boy and Adrienne starred as Phoebe in the first national tour of A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.

Lyrics for “Everything We Forget to Say”
(EM watches JAMIE leave The Blue Bonnet Diner and sits)
EM
I KEEP EVERYTHING INSIDE
AFRAID TO SAY THE FEELINGS I HIDE
I STICK WITH WHAT IS SAFE, WHAT IS TRIED AND TRUE
WHY IS SAYING WHAT MATTERS SO HARD FOR ME TO DO?
I TRY TO KEEP IT REAL
BUT THEN I SOMEHOW LOSE MY WAY
HOW MUCH I REALLY FEEL
IS IN EVERYTHING I FORGET TO SAY
WHY CAN’T I GO OUT ON A LIMB
AND SAY THE WORDS I’VE NEVER SAID TO HIM?
(A light on JAMIE in locker room at the Y.)
JAMIE
I KEEP EVERYTHING INSIDE
AFRAID TO SAY THE FEELINGS I HIDE
I STICK WITH WHAT IS SAFE, WHAT IS TRIED AND TRUE
WHY IS SAYING WHAT MATTERS SO HARD FOR ME TO DO?
SO CLOSE I’M ALMOST THERE
BUT THEN I SOMEHOW LOSE MY WAY
HOW MUCH I REALLY CARE
IS IN EVERYTHING I FORGET TO SAY
WHY CAN’T I SAY WHAT’S ON MY MIND?
WHY ARE THE WORDS ALWAYS SO HARD TO FIND?
EM
NEXT TIME HE’S HERE I’LL MAKE A START
JAMIE
NEXT TIME I WON’T GET IN MY WAY
EM
BE STRONG ENOUGH TO OPEN UP MY HEART
JAMIE
TO FINALLY SAY WHAT I MEAN TO SAY
BOTH
IT SEEMS WE’RE ALMOST THERE
BUT THEN WE SOMEHOW LOSE OUR WAY
HOW MUCH WE REALLY CARE
IS IN EVERYTHING WE FORGET TO SAY
BUT I WON’T FORGET LIKE I ALWAYS DO
AND MAYBE HE/SHE WON’T FORGET TOO.
JAMIE
MAYBE SHE WON’T FORGET
EM
MAYBE HE WON’T FORGET
BOTH
TO SAY THE SAME THING TOO.
(Lights down on scene.)
