Mark Evan Chimsky, librettist/lyricist (L)

Mark Evan Chimsky’s short play “Meeting Fingerman” is the winner of the Honegger Prize for Best Short Play 2024 and was produced by the Firehouse Center for the Arts 22nd Annual New Works Festival in Newburyport, Massachusetts, and by the Barrington Stage Company’s 10×10 New Play Festival 2024 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. In addition, The Authenticity Theater in Atlanta presented “Meeting Fingerman” as part of their “Authentic 10 Showcase” for 2025.

Mark created the book and lyrics for the full-length musical “The Pledge,” which received a staged reading as part of James Madison University’s Madison New Works Lab, and “A Broken Play,” which was presented by the Dramatists Guild’s Friday Night Footlights Reading Series.

His short musical “Albert” was presented by the Boston Conservatory at Berklee as part of the Boston Theater Marathon XXIII. The premiere of “Albert” as a play was produced by the Left Coast Theatre Co. in San Francisco as part of “Queerstory: Forgotten Figures from Queer History.”

Mark’s short play “The Agency” was chosen for Stage Q’s inaugural CapitalQ New Play Festival in Madison, Wisconsin, and was named a semi-finalist by the Maine Playwrights Festival 2024. His short play “Getting Juliet” was named a semi-finalist by the Maine Playwrights Festival and his 10-minute play “The Death of Juliet” was broadcast as part of The Open Eye Theater Playtime series on WXIO radio. His short play “Fallout” was named a semi-finalist for the 2025 Waterworks Festival for New Works at Live Arts and his play “A Different Truth” was a semi-finalist for the Jewish Plays Project’s Ten-Minute Play Festival. His 10-minute play “Shiva” was presented by the Atlanta Jewish Artists in May 2025.

Mark’s one-act play, “The Secret Muse,” received a staged reading as part of the 2024 New Works Series at the Wisconsin Shakespeare Festival.

Mark’s new musical about Shakespeare with music by Alexander Zwick is “Swagger” (swaggerthemusical.com).
